Idaho's Snake River Valley
AVAAmerican Viticultural Area. A legally designated grape-growing region in the United States.
(shared with the east coast of Oregon) continues to establish itself as an impressive emerging winemaking region. While this is an arrid region, the moderating influence of the Snake River, high elevation, and long growing season all create an ideal microclimate. The Sawtooth estate (formerly known as Pintler Cellars) planted vines here in 1982 and is producing some of the best wines in the region with winemaker Meredith Smith at the helm.
