Freisa is an ancient grape variety grown in Piemonte, and evidence suggests that Freisa and Nebbiolo are related - hence some of their shared attributes - bold tannins and a floral, perfumed nose. While it is often prodcued in a slightly sweet, frizzante style - Claudio Fenocchio treats his much like his Nebbiolo - growing the vines in prime hillop areas typically reserved for Nebbiolo vines, with significant age in large oak casks. His non-interventionist approach in the cellars also ensures that the terroir
